Summer in the Fox Cities is an exciting time of the year. Whether you’re looking for family fun, cultural experiences or outdoor adventures, Valley Transit can get you there. In this guide, we’ll share some of the unique summer events you can attend by riding Valley Transit.
Farm Markets
If you love fresh produce, artisanal bread, and handmade crafts, the weekly farm markets in Appleton and Neenah are the perfect place to be. You can take the Route 31 bus, which stops at the market in Neenah. If you’re attending the farm market in Appleton, find a your nearest stop and take Valley Transit to the Transit Center, which is just a block away from all the fun!
Mile of Music
Mile of Music has become a city tradition that offers free music events for all ages each August. You can take Valley Transit to the downtown Transit Center to start your journey on the Mile, and don’t forget to hop on the Mile of Music bus for a show! Valley Transit will pick up Mile of Music riders at a special stop at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center on the hour and half hour.
Walking Trails
Enjoy the great outdoors by taking a walk along one of the many walking trails in the area! The downtown Transit Center is just a short walk from Houdini Plaza, which will get you onto the Fox Trot Trail, a two-mile loop that offers scenic views of Appleton’s downtown and riverfront. You can also connect with the CE Trail on Route 11, where you’ll have access to nearly six miles of paved multipurpose recreational trails.
Downtown Appleton Trolley
The trolley is a free option for riders to see Downtown Appleton from a new view each weekend. Hop on to take a tour of downtown Appleton or enjoy a ride to your favorite spots.
Shopping
These events may call for a new outfit! If you’re looking for some retail therapy or a way to escape the heat this summer, the Route 12 – Fox Valley Tech, Route 15 – West College or Route 41 – West Fox Valley buses can take you to the Fox River Mall Monday through Saturday!
Swimming
Beat the heat by riding the bus to a local pool!

- Jefferson Park Pool – Route 30
- Neenah Swimming Pool – Route 31
Timber Rattlers Game
Support your local team and spend a day at the ballpark! You can ride Valley Transit’s Route 12 – Fox Valley Tech to FVTC campus and walk across the skywalk to the game. Don’t forget to grab a hot dog while you’re there!
Community Concerts
The Fox Cities loves live music and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sunshine and great local talent. The Heid Music Summer Concert Series takes place in Jones Park every Thursday night in Downtown Appleton. Take any route into the Appleton transit center and enjoy a short walk Downtown to Jones Park! Future Neenah also hosts Evening Concerts at Shattuck Park every Wednesday. Route 31 – East Neenah, Route 32 – West Neenah and Route 41 – West Fox Valley drop off at the Neenah Transit Center, right across from Shattuck Park!
